The International AIDS Society (IAS) is the world's membership society for individuals working professionally in HIV. The IAS has over 10,000 members from 172 countries, and is based in Geneva, Switzerland. The IAS is, among other responsibilities, the custodian of the world's premier gathering on HIV/AIDS, the International AIDS Conference, which takes place every two years.
The XVII International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2008), to be held in México City, México from 3-8 August 2008. AIDS 2008 will be the first International AIDS Conference ever held in Latin America, and international planning committees have developed an exciting programme. With over 25,000 participants and 3,000 international media expected, the eyes of the world will be upon México City next summer. Contribute to AIDS 2008 evaluation will help ensure the conference has a lasting impact throughout Latin America, as well as globally.
Description:
Under the direct supervision of the Evaluation Coordinator, and in close collaboration with the AIDS 2008 evaluation team, the intern will provide assistance in the AIDS 2008 evaluation by undertaking the following tasks:
During the conference:
• conduct interviews with conference delegates and participants;
• make observations during some sessions and at different strategic points of the conference;
• enter data collected during interviews and any other relevant information;
• contribute to the translation of interview outputs from Spanish to English;
• assist in the management of volunteers;
• contribute to any other task as required.
After the conference:
• assist in the analysis of data collected during and after the conference;
• assist in the evaluation follow-up, especially the 6-month review;
• contribute to the preparation of the final evaluation report;
• contribute to any other task as required. Profil recherché : The following skills and qualifications are essential:
• Acquaintance with monitoring, evaluation and/or research;
• Some experience in conducting interviews;
• Excellent written and oral English language communication skills;
• Strong computer skills in the Windows environment (particularly Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook);
• Ability to work under pressure in an international context;
• At least 2 years university-level studies in evaluation, social science, international relations or other relevant discipline.
The following skills and qualifications are advantageous:
• Excellent written and oral Spanish language communication skills;
• Some experience in the organization of international conferences, committees or fora;
