Joining Météo-France means becoming part of a multi-site organisation located in mainland France, overseas territories, etc. Météo-France is organised into central and interregional departments. Below is a presentation of the department you could join: The Higher Education and Research Department brings together Météo-France's research entities (mainly CNRM, SAFIRE, LACy), the National School of Meteorology, and shared administrative and IT support services (PGA).
The Centre National de Recherches Météorologiques (CNRM) is the research department of Météo- France, Toulouse, France, jointly operated by Météo-France and CNRS (https://www.umr-cnrm.fr/). Within CNRM, the climate research group is in charge of the development of global state-of-the-art CNRM Earth system model (CNRM-ESM), which
includes components dealing with the atmosphere dynamics and chemistry (ARPEGE), ocean and sea ice (NEMO-GELATO), land surface and biosphere (SURFEX), and oceanic biogeochemistry processes (PISCES). CNRM has a long history within the climate research community and has contributed to the successive CMIP phases and IPCC reports. For IPCC Assessment Cycle 7, CNRM hosts two CLAs (WGI Chap 9 and 2) and two LAs (WGI Chap 5 and SR Cities Chap 2)).

Recruitment is taking place as part of the TRACCS research programme (Transforming Climate modelling for Climate Services, https://pepr-traccs.fr/), which brings together the French climate modelling community. Its activities cover the fundamental understanding of climate change and its impacts, and extend to the development of climate service prototypes co-constructed by stakeholders and modelling experts.
The challenge is to accelerate the development of climate models to meet societal expectations in terms of climate action, particularly in the field of climate change adaptation.
The programme is organised into 10 targeted projects and a governance project, and will be supplemented by projects in response to calls for tenders. It has a budget of €51 million over 10 years. It is co-led by the CNRS and Météo-France, with seven other academic partners. The activities of the governance and targeted projects will mainly be carried out in the Paris region (laboratories of the Institut Pierre-Simon Laplace (IPSL)), in Toulouse (CNRM and other entities of Météo-France, CERFACS) and in Grenoble (Institut des Géosciences de l'Environnement (IGE)).
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the United Nations body for assessing the science related to climate change. It provides authoritative assessments through reports involving the global scientific community.
Chapter Scientists (CS) play essential roles in the IPCC report drafting process. The CS role is usually undertaken by an early career scientist who supports a specific chapter, assisting on more technical tasks such as document and citation management and figure development. The CS role is a unique opportunity for early career scientists to gain experience and knowledge of the IPCC process and of the latest climate change research.
Here, we are seeking a Chapter Scientist based at CNRM (Météo-France/CNRS), Toulouse, France for supporting the authors’ team of Chapter 9 of the IPCC WGI. This chapter focuses on Earth system responses under pathways towards temperature stabilization, including overshoot pathways.
Activities
• Scientific & Analytical Support
o Assist authors in compiling and analyzing large, multi-source datasets relevant to the chapter.
o Develop and share reproducible analysis scripts (e.g., Python, R) for figures, tables, and metrics used in the chapter.
o Ensure all data processing follows transparent and traceable workflows (GitHub, GitLab)
o Assist authors in gathering, organizing, and referencing scientific literature.
o Help with drafting and formatting figures, tables, and boxes.
o Verify consistency of data, citations, and cross-references within the chapter.
• Coordination & Logistics
o Organize and facilitate author meetings and virtual calls.
o Track deadlines, submissions, and revisions for the chapter.
o Maintain up-to-date records of chapter drafts and supplementary materials.
• Review Management
o Coordinate the handling of expert and government review comments.
o Ensure traceability of responses to all review comments.
• Cross-Chapter Communication
o Serve as a link between the chapter team, other chapters, and the Technical Support Unit (TSU).
o Help maintain consistency across the report (terminology, style, figures).

Fixed-term contract of 24 months.
Remote work available: 2 days a week maximum.
The position is based in Toulouse at CNRM, the National Centre for Meteorological Research, a joint research unit
of Météo-France and CNRS.
The Chapter Scientist will work under direct supervision of Roland Séférian at CNRM, one of the Coordinating Lead Authors (CLAs) of IPCC Chapter 9, as well as the two other CLAs Kaoru Tachiiri (SETAN, Japan) and Kirsten Zickfeld (Simon Fraser University, Canada).
Profil recherché
Background in climate science or a related field (Master’s or PhD level preferred).
• Ability to work in a multicultural, multidisciplinary and international environment, showing respect and flexibility.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills (full proficiency in written and spoken English).
• Ability to synthesize complex information and pay attention to details.
* Required level in french advanced.
• Flexibility with working hours, as the chapter work will take place across different time zones.
• Familiarity with scientific publishing and large collaborative projects.
